Project overview
An Android family finance app: envelope budgeting, expense logging by voice or photo, net worth, household chores and an artificial intelligence copilot. What sets it apart from other apps in the category is that it works on behavior —the moment of the craving, the emotion behind the spending, the conversation between partners— and not just on the number.
The challenge
Budgeting apps get abandoned for three well-known reasons, and all three had to be solved at once:
Logging takes effort. If recording an expense takes more than a few seconds, the habit falls apart by the second week.
Willpower does not show up at the moment of the craving. An end-of-month report does not help someone who is about to buy right now.
Couples talk about money badly. Not because of the amount, but because they have no place to talk about it calmly without feeling watched.
Goals
That logging an expense takes seconds, that there is a tool for the exact moment of an impulse purchase, and that a family can share its budget without anyone giving up their privacy. All without a single scolding: no red alerts, no “you overspent”.
The solution, screen by screen

The 24-hour pause
The heart of the app. Instead of blocking the purchase, it postpones it: you note down the craving and decide tomorrow, with a cool head. If you let it go, the app celebrates what stayed in your pocket; if you buy it, that is fine too, because it was a decision and not an impulse.

Logging takes seconds
The number one reason people abandon a finance app is that logging takes effort. Here you just say “45k groceries” and you are done, or you send a photo of the receipt. Charges detected from the bank are ready to be confirmed with one tap.

Envelope budgeting
Every peso has a place before it is spent. The monthly ring and the shared envelopes answer the only question that matters at the checkout: what can be spent today without undoing everything else.

The balance you can actually spend
The home screen does not show the bank balance, but what is left free after what is already committed, and how many days it will last. Below it, two optional taps: what you were feeling when you spent.

As a family, with no secrets and no intrusion
Money is the leading cause of conflict in couples, almost never because of the amount: because there is no place to talk about it calmly. Each person decides what to share and what to keep to themselves, and whatever is marked private is seen by no one, not even the administrator.

Eliot, a copilot that never scolds
You can type to it, talk to it or show it a photo of a receipt. It is off by default: before turning it on, a screen explains what is sent and where. The app works fully without it.

The real scoreboard
It is not how much you spend, it is how much of what you earn becomes something of your own. How much you have, how much you owe and how that difference moves month to month.

The household matters too
Shared household chores, habits, payment reminders and dates you will not forget. What keeps a household running is not just money, and splitting it across five different apps is what makes nobody keep it up.

Privacy: the hard part of this app
An app that reads bank charge notifications, stores how someone feels when they spend and shares an entire family’s budget has to be explicit on each of those three fronts. It was the most demanding part of the design, and also the one that decides whether Google Play approves it.
Bank reading happens on the phone. The notification text never travels to any server, only financial institutions are processed, nothing is logged without the person’s tap and the permission is off by default.
The copilot is opt-in. Eliot stays off until someone turns it on, after a screen that explains what is sent to the artificial intelligence provider. The data is not used to train models.
Emotion is sensitive data and is treated as such. It is optional, feeds only the patterns dashboard of the person who logs it and is not shared with anyone.
No advertising and no selling of data. There is no ad SDK and no cross-app tracking, and the data can be deleted from within the app.
