RegulationsRNT, TRA and SIRE: what your technology should take care of in Colombia
A hotel in Colombia doesn’t just sell nights: it also reports. These are the obligations that affect your technology, with their source.
National Tourism Registry (RNT). It is mandatory for tourism service providers, free of charge and renewed every year in the first three months, according to Bogotá’s District Tourism Institute based on Decree 1836 of 2021. That same decree requires digital platforms to provide a space for providers to display their RNT number and not to list anyone without an active one.
Lodging Registration Card (TRA). Law 2068 of 2020, in its Article 22, requires tourist accommodation providers to register their guests in the system provided by the Government, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism requires it of hotels, hostels, inns, glamping sites and tourist rentals with an active RNT. The Ministry also publishes a manual so that properties with software can submit it through an integration, without filling it in by hand guest by guest.
SIRE of Migración Colombia. Foreign guests are reported on arrival and departure from the property, under Resolution 714 of 2015 of Migración Colombia.
VAT for non-resident tourists. Article 481, item d), of Colombia’s Tax Statute provides an exemption for tourism services sold to non-residents by hotels and agencies registered in the RNT, with immigration documentation requirements (DIAN Concept 3522 of 2025). If you apply it, it makes sense for your booking system to capture that data at the time of booking; exactly which data is defined by your accountant.
What we aim for in a project: that your website and booking engine ask once for the data the TRA, the SIRE and the invoice will need later, and that it can flow to the system that reports it, when that system allows it, instead of being typed again at the front desk. If your PMS already handles the TRA, we use it; if not, we evaluate it in the assessment.
